Hyundai Motor has won a large order for the Sonata (DN8) hybrid taxi in Dubai, the center of transportation in the Middle East.
Hyundai Motor announced on Dec. 11 that it will supply 1,232 Sonata hybrid taxis to DTC Corp., which is affiliated with the UAE's RTA, and Cars Taxi, the largest taxi company in the UAE.
Hyundai Motor, which has been supplying taxis to Dubai since the beginning of the supply of LF Sonata hybrid taxis in 2018, will supply 1,232 units, or 77.9 percent of the orders for Dubai hybrid taxis in 2020.
A total of 2,241 hybrid taxis are in operation in Dubai as of the second half of 2019 and with the latest order contract, Hyundai Motor's market share in the Dubai hybrid taxi market is expected to increase sharply from the previous 13 percent to 62.5 percent by the end of 2020.
Hyundai Motor plans to further strengthen its image as a leader in eco-friendly cars in the Dubai market and strengthen its foothold in the UAE's native states, including Abu Dhabi, and the neighboring Middle Eastern country's eco-friendly car market.
