Hyundai Rotem said on Dec. 12 that it has won an order worth 127.5 billion won to supply 41 diesel-powered cars to the Irish Railway Administration.
The project was ordered by the state-run agency following an Irish diesel-powered vehicle delivery project won by Hyundai Rotem in 2005 due to rising demand for local passengers. Hyundai Rotem has won orders for 234 diesel-powered vehicles in Ireland, including 150 in 2005, 33 in 2007 and 51 in 2008.
The diesel-powered cars delivered by Hyundai Rotem are being operated on suburb and commuter routes centering on Dublin, the capital of Ireland, with an additional 41 units to be delivered in the same section.
The maximum speed of the diesel-powered vehicle will be 160 km/h and will be equipped with an eco-friendly diesel engine that meets the "Stage V," the highest level of diesel emission control in Europe.
"The successful delivery of diesel-powered cars in Ireland has led to additional orders," a Hyundai Rotem official said. "As a global railway company, we will continue to supply high-quality vehicles and strengthen our market penetration."
