S-OIL, led by CEO Hussain A. Al-Qahtani, held the "2019 Marine Police Hero Award" ceremony at the Korea Coast Guard’s grand auditorium in Songdo, Incheon on Dec. 23, and awarded the six top maritime police officers 70 million won in prize money and plaques.

At the ceremony, S-OIL awarded Lee Seong-hee, a 46-year-old police lieutenant at Pohang Maritime Police Station who was named the "supreme hero maritime police" after being recommended by the Korea National Maritime Police Agency and the Korea Social Welfare Council, 20 million won in prize money and a plaque.

It also presented 10 million won in prize money and a plaque to five "hero marine police officers" including Lieutenant Chun Sang-yong of Busan Maritime Police Station.

Lieutenant Lee, who was named the highest-hero maritime police, rescued two leisure boat crew members drifting in waters near Pohang's new port breakwater in April, and in July rescued nine crew members when a motorboat sailing in front of an observatory at Yeongildae Beach in Pohang was flooded.

"The true heroes of the Coast Guard are those who risk the danger in a ship facing crisis in the middle of the ocean," said Ryu Yeol, president of S-OIL. "We will not forget about this and will continue to support the Coast Guard in the future."
