Lineage 2M, NCSOFT's new mobile massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), has maintained the top spot in sales of both Apple's App Store and Google Play since its release on Nov. 27. In the game industry, experts say that NC is showing the power of Lineage IP once again.

Lineage 2M was called the biggest game in 2019 even before its release. The number of pre-orders hit 7.38 million, the largest in the country. It ranked first in sales in just nine hours at Apple's App Store and four days at Google Play.

This is the result of beating out the previous "Lineage M," which has been at the top for 30 months. Since the launch of Lineage 2M, Lineage brothers have so far ranked first and second in sales of Google Play.

NC CEO Kim Taek-jin earlier expressed confidence at a news conference for Lineage 2M held in September, saying, "I assure you, there will be no games that can technically follow Lineage 2M over the next few years."

The game industry cites outstanding technology as the backdrop of Lineage 2M’s box office success. NC has implemented 4K UHD (Ultra-HD)-class 3D graphics into Lineage 2M.

To enjoy good graphics, you need high-specifications devices. NC supports cross play, which also enjoys mobile games on PCs, through its new cross play service "PURPLE." The measure is designed to allow users to enjoy Lineage 2M even though specifications of their smartphones are low.

Lineage 2M introduced 'collision processing technology' for the first time in 3D MMORPG games in Korea in order to maximize the fun of war and combat. Collision processing technology allows characters and monsters to have their own space so that they can bump into each other "Collision is an essential element of a large-scale war," an NC official said. Only when there is a conflict, strategies and tactics using terrain and manpower are required, meaning that one-dimensional high-level war games can be implemented.

"We were surprised to see that we were able to handle all the traffic even when more than 7 million preorders were queued," a source from the game industry said. "NC created a server with about 30,000 users at the same time. I think this is the best record ever for MMOs."
