Korea Midland Power (KOMIPO) Asia won the Excellence Award from the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small Medium Enterprises of Indonesia in recognition of its efforts to realize social values in Indonesia.

KOMIPO Asia, Indonesia's flagship unit of Korea Midland Power Co., has jointly conducted One Village One Product (OVOP) business with KOTRA since April. The OVOP project is a Korea-Indonesia economic cooperation project that has been pursued by KOTRA and the Indonesian ministry since 2015 with the aim of boosting the economy in low-income areas by developing special products for Indonesian communities.

To implement the main project, KOMIPO Asia first sought a village association around the site operated by KOMIPO to sign an agreement with the Srikandi union, which includes 191 women near the hydropower plant.

KOMIPO Asia has decided to intensively foster local coffee as a “one best-selling product” for the village women’s association, which has only annual sales of 8.5 million won, and to support new coffee machines and help its members receive training from the Inni Coffee Export Association’s professionals.

It also plans to support marketing to explore the market. Currently, the union expects to see sales rise in 2020 as such efforts have led to the recognition of coffee quality by the Inni Coffee Export Association.

In addition, KOMIPO Asia will help its members receive eco-friendly coffee cultivation education from environmental groups to prevent coffee cultivation through reckless forest development.

"As a global eco-friendly energy company, we will share with Indonesian society the business results we have gained from running a business in Indonesia for more than 10 years, and more actively carry out environmental conservation and social value-creating activities," said Park Hyung-koo, president of KOMIPO.
