For the first time in the industry, Samsung Electronics has won 8K certification from ‘8K Association’ for all of its 2020 QLED 8K products.
The 8K certification that Samsung Electronics received this time includes 8K certification standards related to 8K display and content, including resolution 7680×4320, display maximum brightness (Peak Brightness) 600 nit or higher, video transmission interface HDMI 2.1 and compression method HEVC (High Efficiency Video Codec).
The 8K association has focused on securing member companies in various fields to expand the 8K ecosystem, and now a total of 22 member companies are joined by participating companies in various fields, including panel manufacturers, chipset makers, content producers, streaming companies and equipment manufacturers.
The 8K association announced the criteria for 8K certification in September, and other member companies are also seeking the certification, following Samsung Electronics.
The 8K association plans to set a common standard for the industry in the gradually expanding 8K market through the 8K certification program and expand the 8K experience that consumers can enjoy.
In addition, the 8K Association will push for various activities such as expanding 8K-certified devices, securing a market for high-quality video content, and developing a roadmap for 8K technology to grow the industry.
"As Samsung Electronics is at the forefront of the 8K market, we will further expand our 8K ecosystem through cooperation with various companies as well as 8K associations," said Lee Hyo-gun, vice president of Samsung Electronics’ Video Display Business Department.
