Chung Eui-sun, executive vice chairman of Hyundai Motor Group

Chung Eui-sun, executive vice chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, declared that it will make 2020 the first year to have leadership in the future mobility market.

According to Hyundai Motor Group, Chung held a New Year's meeting at Hyundai Motor's main auditorium in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, and stressed that the company should produce tangible results in the future mobility market, which is represented by electric vehicles, hydrogen cars and self-driving technologies.

Last year, Hyundai Motor Group focused on building the foundation for change through large-scale investments, partnership cooperation and innovation in the way it works. The group plans to continue to improve its overall business structure this year, while fully implementing technological innovations such as electric cars and hydrogen cars.

Chung stressed the importance of technological development, saying, "With the development of technology and networks, the imaginary future is becoming a reality, and this change is accelerating in the automobile industry."

He then said that in order to solidify leadership in the electric vehicle market, the group will operate a total of 44 electric-powered vehicles, including 11 electric car-only models, by 2025, based on the development of dedicated platforms and enhanced competitiveness of key electrically powered components.

Hyundai Motor Group, which sold 24 electrically powered vehicles in 2019, will expand to a total of 44 vehicles in 2025, including 13 hybrids, six plug-in hybrids, 23 electric vehicles and two hydrogen electric vehicles.
Electric cars, in particular, will be increased from nine types in 2019 to 23 models in 2025, with the launch of dedicated models in early 2021.

It is also planning to introduce a new electric vehicle architecture (basic frame of vehicle) development system and apply it to its vehicles that will be released in 2024.

This year, the company will also add hybrid and plug-in hybrid lineups to its flagship SUV models such as Sorento, Tucson and Santa Fe, increasing the number of electrically powered vehicles.

"Hyundai, which has the world's best technology for hydrogen electric vehicle, will start selling fuel cell systems as well as vehicles starting this year, and lead the expansion of the hydrogen industry ecosystem through cooperation in related infrastructure building projects," said Chung.
