It marked the first anniversary of the government's announcement of a "road map to revitalize the hydrogen economy."

South Korea established the world's first hydrogen law and dominated the global hydrogen economy market with hydrogen cars, charging stations and fuel cells.

Since the announcement of the road map, the government has prepared six follow-up measures for each sector, including the establishment of hydrogen infrastructure and charging stations, future automobile industry development strategies, hydrogen technology development road maps and comprehensive measures for hydrogen safety management.

It has provided about 370 billion won to expand supply, develop core technologies, and build hydrogen production bases, including subsidies for hydrogen vehicles, including the supplementary budget.

As a result, it quickly dominated the global hydrogen economy market. In the January-October period of last year, its sales of hydrogen cars came to 3,666 units, accounting for 60 percent of global sales. It has overtaken rivals such as Japan to achieve the No. 1 spot in global sales.

As of the end of last year, the cumulative number of hydrogen cars exported stood at 1,724 units. It also opened new overseas markets, with 1,600 10-ton hydrogen trucks to be exported to Switzerland.

The number of domestic supplies jumped to 5,097 units. Ten hydrogen taxis started driving in downtown Seoul in September last year, driving a total of 313,000 kilometers, with a total of 22,000 passengers on board.

The government is also actively pursuing a project to supply hydrogen buses by replacing old police buses with hydrogen buses.

The government has expanded hydrogen charging stations as it sees them as a key infrastructure to expand the hydrogen economy. It has built 20 stations in a year and is currently operating a total of 34. Last year, the number of charging stations deployed was the largest in the world.

For fuel cell generation, it has grown to be the largest in the world. As of the end of last year, Korea had 408MW of fuel cell power, accounting for 40 percent of global supply.

Last year, the government enacted the "Hydrogen Economy Promotion and Hydrogen Safety Management Act" for the first time in the world, securing grounds for promoting the hydrogen economy.

It has put out a "comprehensive measure for hydrogen safety management" and also prepared a safety management system for the whole cycle. It invested 93.6 billion won in production of green hydrogen and R&D of technology for localization of key components, selected a hydrogen model city and started to preempt global standards. It also signed MOUs with Australia and Saudi Arabia to introduce overseas hydrogen.
