KT made an announcement on Jan. 14 that KT and Samsung Medical Center jointly developed innovative 5G medical services to establish ‘5G Smart Innovation Hospital’.
This was done after KT and Samsung Medical Center signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a 5G smart innovation hospital in September last year.
This is the first time in the world that 5G has been applied to medical work to find and implement tasks that can help patients with rapid treatment.
To establish 5G Smart Innovative Hospital, both companies have developed and verified tasks such as 5G digital pathology diagnosis, 5G proton treatment information, 5G surgery guidance, AI-based smart care giver construction in the hospital room and self-driving robots in the operating room.
To that end, KT established ‘business-only 5G’ network at Samsung Medical Center and set up service environment in operating room and proton treatment room to test operation. Due to the nature of hospitals that handle personal health information, the ‘company-only 5G’ with high security that only authorized users can access is essential.
Based on these achievements, both companies will continue to develop smart patient care services, innovation of 5G-based medical practice, and 5G services to improve hospital operation efficiency.
