The two companies recently held a signing ceremony in Las Vegas to jointly develop solutions for vehicles, the company said on Jan. 14. The signing ceremony was attended by Park Il-pyong, chief technology officer of LG Electronics, and Sanjay Dhawan, CEO of Cerence.

Both companies are developing a webOS auto-based IVI system that has voice recognition function. It is planning to make it more convenient for customers to use various functions such as navigation and multimedia contents in their vehicles.

WebOS Auto is a Linux-based infotainment platform for vehicles. It supports a variety of services that are specialized for connected cars.

It has been working on R&D for more than 20 years in voice recognition for vehicles and has applied Cerence solution to more than 300 million vehicles so far. It is leading in this field by supplying voice recognition engines that support about 70 languages to global carmakers.
