“Beyond,” a college student volunteer group at POSCO, engaged in school building and education service activities in Cilegon, Indonesia, from Jan. 11 to 20.
Beyond is the first college student volunteer group established by POSCO in 2007 to foster global model talent, and 100 university students from across the country have conducted various volunteer activities at home and abroad for eight months.
It is also a key program of POSCO’s "Be a Global Model Citizen" project, one of the top six corporate citizens’ projects announced in December last year at an event to share achievements of corporate citizens.
A total of 120 students participated in Indonesia, including 100 students selected from POSCO Beyond and 20 students from Indonesia Beyond in May last year.
First, POSCO’s Beyond engaged in construction volunteer activities at five village schools near PT.KRAKATAU-POSCO in Indonesia. They also participated in the closing process of the new school under the POSCO Steel Village project, which started in 2018, and added its significance to the project. Twenty executives and employees of PT.KRAKATAU-POSCO also participated in building volunteer work to help out.
Meanwhile, POSCO Beyond has produced 1,300 members so far, built 15 steel houses in 13 cities for 182 fire damage and low-income families in Korea, and four overseas countries, including India, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, and conducted volunteer activities to build houses in 120 homes, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 1,328 by last year.
