LG Electronics has deployed "LG CLOi ServeBot," a robot for serving, at a restaurant run by CJ Foodville.

LG Electronics announced on Feb. 3 that it introduced a LG CLOi ServeBot at Cheiljemyunso operated by CJ Foodville at the Seoul Railway Station History Store, Hangang-daero, Seoul, on Jan. 31 and started operating it in earnest.

It is the first time that the CLOi ServeBot, which debuted at the world’s largest electronic show "CES 2020" in Las Vegas last month, has been introduced to actual stores.

LG Electronics previously introduced a CLOi ChefBot to CJ Foodville’s VIPS store in Deungchon-dong in November last year.

CLOi ServeBot uses indoor self-driving and obstacle-avoidance technologies to bring food to the table where users are. The CLOi ServeBot can share food in up to four compartments by attaching three trays. After finishing the meal, it returns to the user-occupied table and transport the empty bowl.

CLOi ServeBot is expected to be useful in moving dishes from hot or heavy bowls, allowing restaurant employees to focus on more valuable things such as more attentively serving customers.

Another advantage is to provide friendly service to users. Various facial expressions are displayed on the screen, when movement detects an obstacle, 'Sorry. May I pass by for a moment?' it said, avoiding conflict. Also, songs are played while on the move, so users around them can easily see that the ServeBot is moving.

"A number of robots such as ChefBots and ServeBots that were introduced at this year’s CES are gradually being introduced into the reality," said Noh Jin-seo, executive director of LG Electronics’ Robot Business Center. "We will continue to introduce robots that can provide new values to customers and contribute to creating a society where people and robots cooperate."
