Suwon City of Gyeonggi Province announced on Feb. 25 that a 39-year-old Korean man living in Metan 4-dong, Yeongtong-gu, has been confirmed with the first coronavirus infection (COVID-19). The number of confirmed people in Suwon totaled seven.
The confirmed person is an employee of WIZ, a company spun off from Samsung Electro-Mechanics, according to the Suwon city government. Samsung Electro-Mechanics sold its wireless charging business to Chemtronics last year.
He has a history of visiting Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province between early and mid-February, and reportedly felt minor sore throat from early morning on Feb. 17.
The man visited a screening clinic at Dongsuwon Hospital at around 3 p.m. on Feb. 24 to collect samples. The first positive test was made at 8:30 a.m. The Gyeonggi Institute of Health and Environment is preparing for a second sample test.
The man is scheduled to be transferred from his home in Metan-dong to Paju Hospital, Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center.
WIZ is located in Samsung Electro-Mechanics' Suwon workplace in Metan-dong, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon. Suwon City shut down the building after sterilizing the WIZ workplace.
"There is a WIZ office within our company, but it is far from the headquarters," a Samsung Electro-Mechanics official said. "We understand that it does not affect the headquarters."
