KT won the "UN SDGs Mobile Contribution" category with the Global Epidemic Prevention Platform (GEPP), a platform to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, at the 2020 Global Mobile Awards on February 25.
The Global Mobile Awards is an award ceremony for the ICT sector of global authority organized by the Global Association of Mobile Telecommunications Operators (GSMA). Winners will be selected for companies and services that have achieved major innovations and achievements across the mobile industry, including technologies, terminals and content.
KT's GEPP, which won the award in the "UN SDGs Mobile Contribution" category, is a system that can block the spread of infectious diseases and respond to the right time based on mobile data.
The judges said, "It is a well-designed and essential tool for global public health and through this approach and cooperation in ecosystems, we have produced results in developing excellent solutions."
KT's GEPP uses telecommunications big data technology to provide information on travelers' travel routes and infectious diseases to health authorities and individuals.
KT introduced the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Smart Quarantine System in Korea in 2016 with support from the Ministry of Science, Technology, Information and Communication. The company had also introduced it to Kenya, Ghana and Laos in 2019.
"We will continue to create examples of the spread of warm technologies that represent the Republic of Korea like GEPP in the future and expand further to global markets," KT said.
