Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, a shipbuilding affiliate of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, has secured a series of orders for its flagship mid-sized petrochemical product carriers in 2020, solidifying its position as the world's No. 1 mid-sized ship builder.
Hyundai Mipo Dockyard said on Feb. 28 that it recently signed a contract with an Asian shipping company to build one 50,000-ton PC ship worth 45.3 billion won. The deal includes one option so that it is expected to win an additional order in the future.
The new PC ship will be 183 meters long, 32.2 meters wide and 19.1 meters high, and will be built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan in July and delivered to the shipper in late June 2021.
Previously, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard won orders for seven 50,000-ton PC ships from three shippers in January and another 50,000-ton PC ship from an Asian shipper on Feb. 12.
“We will do our best to achieve this year's order target through our advanced technology and aggressive sales activities," a Hyundai Mipo Dockyard official said.
