Owing to the outbreak of the COVID-19 confirmed case, a plant was shut down in Hyundai Construction Equipment. The plant where the confirmed employee worked will be closed by March 5.
According to the Ulsan Metropolitan Government and other quarantine authorities on March 4, Hyundai Construction Equipment shut down its plant in Ulsan from 10 p.m. on March 3. Some 1,000 factory workers were ordered to work at home.
At Hyundai Motor's second plant in Ulsan, an employee of the paint department was diagnosed as being infected with the COVID-19 on Feb. 28.
Hyundai Motor immediately halted operations of the second plant in Ulsan and carried out precision quarantine. Of the 4,000 employees at the plant, those who made close contacts with the patient were self-isolated.
With the Ulsan 2 plant closed for three days, production of the flagship Palisade and Genesis GV80 has also been temporarily suspended.
With the number of confirmed cases rising to 23 in Ulsan alone as of March 5, two employees at large companies' factories were infected with the epidemic.
Accordingly, tension is high at other factories near Hyundai Motor and Hyundai Construction Equipment. There are about 300 factories there, including those of Hyundai Steel, KCC, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hyundai Electric.
