Korean Air said on March 20 that it recently delivered 3,000 Sharklets, a wing component for Airbus A320 series aircraft, to Airbus, on an accumulated basis.
The Sharklet is a structure attached to the wing end of the A320 aircraft, which increases fuel efficiency by 4 percent compared to the previous one, extending the flight distance.
Korean Air was selected as the manufacturer of Airbus A320 Sharklet in 2010. After successfully completing production of its first Sharklet in July 2012, it has prepared facilities for Auto Moving Line, which has production capacity of more than 50 units per month and has reached a cumulative performance of 3,000 units.
"With our strong partnership with Airbus, we were able to achieve the results of the delivery of 3,000 units. Based on this experience, Airbus and Korean Air will achieve more results,” a Korean Air spokesman said.
Meanwhile, Korean Air is set to sign a follow-up contract after the delivery of 800 cargo doors for the A350 aircraft. In the event of a follow-up contract, 400 additional units will be supplied from 2023.
