Another confirmed case of COVID-19 occurred at Samsung Electronics' Gumi workplace. It is a Gumi 2 plant that produces smartphones. There is no disruption in production. The employee has been on a self-isolation status since February.
According to Samsung Electronics on March 21, a confirmed COVID-19 was found at Samsung Electronics' Gumi 2 plant in North Gyeongsang Province. He is an employee of the wireless business department.
This is the fifth confirmed COVID-19 employee of the wireless business division. The Gumi 2 plant has five confirmed cases, including one employee at a bank's business establishment. In case of including one at the Gumi 1 plant, it is the seventh confirmed COVID-9 for all Gumi plants.
The date of the positive COVID-19 test was March 19. There are no further isolation and production disruptions. The employee had been at self-isolation since February 28. This is because his contact with confirmed patients was suspected.
He has not been at Gumi 2 plant since Feb. 25. Samsung Electronics conducted quarantine at its Gumi 2 plant site due to a patient even when the employee did not come to work.
Gumi 2plant makes premium smartphones that are supplied in South Korea. Samsung Electronics has moved part of its production volume of its Gumi 2 plant to Vietnam since March 7 as a countermeasure against the COVID-19. Even if the Gumi 2 plant stops, there will be no problem.
"We are going to operate our business normally without closing our plants. Because the employee concerned has been in quarantine since last month," Samsung Electronics said.
