Hyundai Motor's plant in Piracicaba, Brazil also halted operations following the spread of the COVID-19. Most of Hyundai Motor's overseas production bases have been shut down in a series of virus traps.

Hyundai Motor said on March 24 that it will shut down its plant in Brazil until April 9 in line with the Brazilian state's policy. The plant in Brazil is a plant with an annual capacity of 180,000 units and produces local strategic models such as "HB20" and "Crete."

Sao Paulo's state government on March 21 declared a state of emergency caused by COVID-19 and banned commercial transactions for 15 days. Under the measure, 33 plants, including General Motors, Ford and Volkswagen, which have production plants in Brazil as well as Hyundai Motor, will be shut down until next month. The Brazilian factory has about 2,500 employees.

Hyundai Motor has suspended its global overseas production bases, including its plant in Alabama on March 18, its plant in Czech Republic on the 19th and its plant in India on the 23rd.

In the United States, there has been a confirmed corona case, and the Czech Republic and India have decided to suspend them in accordance with government policy to prevent the spread of the virus.

On top of this, it is expected that production will be halted at even Brazilian factories, causing a major disruption in supply of overseas supplies.

Kia Motors, which previously suspended operations of its Slovak plant, will also stop its plant in Andhra Pradesh, India, from March 24. The move comes after the Indian government recommended the plant be shut down to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The production of Hyundai and Kia's overseas plants, whose production has stopped due to the coronavirus crisis, is more than 2 million units. If the suspension of the plants continues for a long time, the overall production loss will be inevitable.
