The new camera enhances driving safety in narrow streets that require a complex maneuver
Coupang said on March 25 that it will install an "Around View Cameras" on all delivery vehicles to help Coupangmen drive safely.
“Around View Camera” provides a 360-degree view of the vehicle environment on a dashboard display screen using four cameras installed on a vehicle. The system provides Coupangmen an all-around view when driving and identifies events happening around a vehicle.
The new optical information is expected to prevent road safety accidents when Coupangmen are driving in narrow streets with blind spots, parking and stopping. Coupang will finish installing Around View Camera in all vehicles by July this year.
Coupang has taken many measures to ensure safe driving. The company has been conducting safety training for all Coupangmen and was the first in the industry that required assistance side mirror, front and rear sensors and park brake alarm to be installed on all vehicles.
The company also runs automatic transmission vehicles to help reduce driver fatigue. Alongside the efforts of putting in place a series of safety measures, Coupang is the only company in the industry to directly hire delivery drivers and comply with the five-day workweek system that limits working hours to 52 hours a week.
A study shows that an average Coupangman work 9.3 hours a day whereas an average delivery sub-contractor work 12.2 hours a day.
“Coupang has been working to protect the safety of all our Coupangmen and citizens by taking steps to prevent accidents that could occur during deliveries,” Coupang's Representative Director Sam Ko said. “We will lead the way in safer delivery in line with the revision of the Road Safety Act, also known as the 'Min-sik Law'.”
