Prosecutors have requested an arrest warrant for Jung Hyun-ho, head of Medytox. He is accused of illegally distributing unverified drugs.
According to the court on March 25, the Cheongju District Prosecutors' Office requested an arrest warrant for Jung, CEO of Medytox, on charges of violating the pharmacist law and obstructing official duties by deception. The questioning of the suspect before Chung's arrest is scheduled to take place on March 26.
Medytox has been suspected of illegally distributing botulinum toxin-type "meditoxin" before its authorization and of not conducting sterilization work in production.
It is also suspected that the company used experimental unlicensed original liquid for production of products and manipulated some products as if they met the standard even though some products fell short of the quality standard.
Meditoxin was developed by Medytox and was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in March 2006.
In July last year, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) received a tip from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission that Medytox committed illegal acts in producing Meditoxin and conducted its own investigation while asking the Cheongju District Prosecutors' Office to investigate.
Previously, the MFDS confirmed that the quality of some of the "meditoxin" products licensed for export in October last year was inadequate and ordered to recall and dispose of them.
