SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won said on April 8 that SK Group should turn the COVID- 19 crisis into an opportunity to make a fresh leap forward with the power to overcome the crisis that he inherited from his predecessors.
Chey and other SK Group executives held a "Memorial Day" at their respective offices to pay tribute to the late Choi Jong-gun, the founder of the group, and the late Choi Jong-hyun, the former president of SK.
In a memorial speech for the "Memorial Day", Chairman Chey said, "The late Choi Jong-gun and Choi Jong-hyun broke through the ruins of the Korean War by starting a business, and overcame the crisis by thinking of the country first despite the unprecedented economic crisis such as the two oil crises and the Asian financial crisis. With our fierceness, noble spirit, and solid power, let's write a new history as well as a big leap forward."
He also stressed that companies should act as safety plates in the process of overcoming the COVID-19 crisis. "The process of overcoming the crisis involves growing pains and sacrifices, but at times like this, we should not miss each member or be happy only when it's good. SK should create a meaningful safety net that protects society."
Choi Shin-won, chairman of SK Networks, also said, "SK has passed a long 67 years since its foundation, but this number does not guarantee the future. Let's continue their passion and spirit of ambition and grow into a 100-year company armed with a new spirit of challenge."
Meanwhile, SK Group's management had held Memorial Day at the SK Memorial Hall in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, on April 8, the anniversary of its foundation since 2018, but this year, they participated in each of their offices due to the COVID-19.
More than 30 people participated in the event, including Chey Jae-won, SK Senior Vice Chairman Choi Jae-won, SK Discovery Vice Chairman Choi Chang-won, Chairman of the Supex Pursuit Council Cho Dae-sik and Chairman of each committee, as well as CEOs of major related companies.
