Baedal Minjok (Baemin), which caused controversy over fee hikes and drew strong opposition from self-employed people and consumers, has decided to return to the existing fee system.
Kim Bong-jin, chairman of Woowa Brothers, which runs the order payment app Baemin, and Kim Beom-joon, CEO of the company, said on April 10, "We have caused confusion and burden to many people by introducing a new fee system without careful consideration of the hardships of restaurant owners. We will completely abolish the open service system introduced on April 1 and return to the previous system."
Chairman Kim said, "After the reform of the rate system, restaurant owners, related agencies, and various sectors have consistently said that it would be better to review it from the starting point. We will accept their advice with deep remorse at a time when the spread of COVID-19 has caused difficulties for self-employed people."
He continued to say, "As we go through this incident, Woowa Brothers once again felt the weight of the social responsibility required of us. In the future, we will communicate with the store owners on a regular basis to decide on major policy changes, and to that end, we will set up a consultative body for communication with the owners."
In response, Korea Federation of Micro Enterprise (KFME) said, "We hope it will serve as an opportunity for Baemin to understand the meaning of the proverb, “Everything is to go back to right.” We call for Baemin to show sincerity in forming a true consultative body.”
