LG Display will showcase its "transparent OLED" technology on MBC's general election vote count broadcast.
LG Display will set up a special studio by utilizing transparent OLED, a next-generation display, in the general election ballot counting broadcast 'Select 2020' that will be broadcast on April 15 in collaboration with MBC.
It will be the first time for transparent OLEDs to be unveiled to ordinary viewers, a LG official said on April 13. Transparent OLED is a display that allows you to see things behind the panel as the screen is as transparent as glass. It can be used in various ways for store show windows, office space, etc.
LG Display and MBC plan to install six transparent OLEDs in the cast seats in the main studio and display various contents, including the current status of the votes, on the screen to create images like SF films to provide viewers with fresh and differentiated attractions.
LG Electronics' transparent OLED signage will also be installed in a separate outdoor studio to deliver unique ballot count information that changes every minute.
LG Display and LG Electronics commercialized transparent OLEDs last year. It is 55-inch-sized one with full HD resolution and has a transmission rate of 40%. For the existing transparent LCDs that were commercialized, the transmission rate is only around 10 percent. Because OLEDs emit light on their own without backlight, they are advantageous for structurally increasing permeability.
Oh Chang-ho, vice president of LG Display's TV business division, said, "We will present infinite scalability of OLED through a meeting with a higher level of display technology and MBC general election ballot counting broadcasting."
"By utilizing LG Display's advanced OLED technology, MBC will showcase differentiated Vote count broadcasting content that can catch viewers' attention," MBC's election broadcasting planning team said.
