Nongshim has decided to launch “Chapaguri (Korean instant noodle)” sequentially in the global market starting in South Korea from April 21, two months after winning the Oscar award for the movie Parasite.
In recent months, Chapaguri has become a cultural icon that promotes Korea in the world beyond simply a recipe for mixing ramen. This Chapaguri craze led to the actual release of the product.
The new Chapaguri will be released as a container noodle. An official of Nongshim explained, "Since making Chapaguri by mixing the two products – Chapagetti and Neoguri -- in its own way is a fun area for consumers, we developed it as a container noodle instead of a bag. It is a product that can be easily eaten at convenience stores and outdoor activities."
"Even now, consumers from all over the world are sharing their curiosity and review of Chapaguri through Nongshim's SNS channel. In particular, many overseas consumers have asked us to release container noodles that can be cooked easily," the official said.
“On the back of this support, Nongshim has decided to launch Chapaguri. We will start selling in the United States, Southeast Asia, Japan, Australia, and Russia first, and gradually increase the number of countries. We will be able to meet Chapaguri sequentially from May at the earliest," he added.
Nongshim believes the launch of the new product could ignite the Chapaguri craze once more in Korea as well as abroad. Another Nongshim official said, "We expect Chapaguri to grow into a new leader in K-food, informing consumers around the world of the new charm of Korean ramen."
Meanwhile, Chapagetti, whose overseas sales rose 120 percent on-year in February due to the Chapaguri craze, has continued to gain popularity with a 116 percent growth in March.
