LG CNS has introduced a "face recognition community currency" system that combines three new IT technologies: AI, blockchain and cloud. It is the first time that a system that combines the three new IT technologies has been unveiled in South Korea.
When the system identifies an employee with AI facial recognition technology, pre-registered blockchain-based community currency is automatically paid. All systems work on the cloud.
Employees who have agreed to use face and account information in advance will automatically pay if they only recognize the face on the device installed on the restaurant's food stand.
It is much easier to use the service than the traditional method of tagging smart cards or paying with mobile QR codes.
It significantly reduces the probability of virus infection, such as COVID-19, by eliminating unnecessary contact between machines and people.
The 'face recognition community currency' system is significant in that it has increased the number of areas where new innovative services can be applied by merging AI and blockchain technologies that were used in each digital innovation area.
LG CNS has been test-operating the system in one of its underground restaurants since March, and plans to expand its system-applicable stores to reflect the results.
Since January this year, the company has applied AI-based face recognition access solution to one gate at its headquarters and expanded it to the entire gate since February.
In the proliferation phase of COVID-19, the company added a function that only mask wearers can access the gate and automatically measure body temperature when entering.
Earlier in August last year, LG CNS introduced its own blockchain system platform, Monachain-based community currency payment system, to restaurants and cafes in Magok headquarters.
"It is expected that blockchain-based community currency will be used by a lot more people as it becomes more convenient when it meets AI," said Lee Joon-won, LG CNS Solution Business Development Manager. "As non-face-to-face technologies are applied recently, blockchain that increases transaction reliability will be used more widely."
