Netflix came out with an official position about the fact that it expressed the “East Sea” as the “Japanischen Meer (Sea of Japan)” in the German subtitles of its movie, “Time to Hunt.”
On April 24, Netflix said, "The Time to Hunt" will be serviced with a total of 30 language subtitles for fans around the world. We are currently checking whether there are any cases like German subtitles with localized teams. We will revise the subtitles as soon as the corresponding process is completed.”
Previously, 'Time to Hunt' was released in 190 countries worldwide through Netflix on April 23.
There were a variety of subtitles in Korean, English and French. But the German subtitles of the East Sea was expressed as the Japanischen Meer (Sea of Japan), causing controversy.
But the Voluntary Agency Network of Korea, VANK, found the fact and sent a letter to Netflix to change the German subtitles.
Meanwhile, "Time to Hunt" is a film about four friends who planned a dangerous operation for a new life and an unidentified pursuer chasing them.
Lee Je-hoon, Choi Woo-sik, Ahn Jae-hong, Park Jung-min, and Park Hae-soo were featured and directed by Yoon Sung-hyun. It is a masterpiece with a total production cost of 11.7 billion won (some $95.9 million).
However, due to the spread of COVID-19, the plan to release the movie in Korea has been canceled.
