KT CEO Koo Hyun-mo has been appointed as a commissioner of the Broadband Commission and will participate in the global ICT response to overcome the COVID-19 crisis.
KT made an announcement on May 31 that CEO Koo has been appointed as a commissioner of the Broadband Commission, co-organized by the ITU and UNESCO. Currently, CEO Koo is the only member of the committee in Korea, and his tenure is two years.
KT said, "CEO Koo was appointed as a member of the Broadband Commission in recognition of his expertise and insight in telecommunications and ICT fields accumulated during his 34 years at KT. It was an opportunity to reaffirm the status of Korea and KT in the global ICT industry."
"The Broadband Commission is carrying out various activities to mark its 10th anniversary this year," said ITU Secretary General Houlin Zhao. "We are pleased to appoint KT CEO Koo, who has expertise in ICT, as a member of the Broadband Commission."
"KT will contribute to global cooperation to overcome COVID-19 pandemic based on KT's know-how in operating wired and wireless networks, artificial intelligence, and big data, while delivering the excellence of Korea's ICT to the world," said CEO Koo.
The Broadband Commission, which was established in 2010, is a global consultative body that supports the spread of high-speed Internet infrastructure and digital development around the world.
Leaders and government officials from around the world, officials from international organizations, and executives from global companies such as Facebook, Microsoft, Nokia, Ericsson and Novartis are participating as members.
Recently, the Broadband Commission has emphasized digital cooperation to overcome the COVID-19 crisis. In particular, it is seeking ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and minimize the adverse effects on the economy and society by utilizing high-speed Internet that connects the world.
To that end, the committee has adopted three major codes of conduct: flexible connections, low-cost access, and safe use of the Internet for information and education.
