Hyperconnect, video communication company, announced today that the video chat app ‘Azar’ has surpassed the 500 million downloads worldwide.

'Azar' is a video chat app launched in 2014 and based on the world's first commercialized mobile WebRTC technology, developed by Hyperconnect.

Powered by the continued popularity of the MZ generation that communicates via video, it hit 500 million downloads and 8.5 billion matches in June, strengthening it’s position as the world’s largest one-to-one video chat app.

"500 million downloads were achieved in about 8 months, after reaching 400 million downloads in September of last year. And it is even more meaningful during this coronavirus pandemic," said Hyperconnect CEO, Ahn Sang-il. "This has proved that people want to stay connected, even when living through a pandemic and that they can turn to video to overcome loneliness."

"'Azar' is a video chat app that allows you to chat with people on the other side of the globe by simply swiping the screen with their fingers in a safe and enjoyable environment," said Ahn. "I hope that ‘Azar’ can help you fight off the loneliness that has taken over us for not being able to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. With ‘Azar’, you can make friends from all over the world and experience the feeling of going on a trip from the safety and comfort of your own home."

Hyperconnect is the world's first company to successfully develop and commercialize WebRTC that can be used on mobile devices. The company is currently making various services based on video communication and artificial intelligence technology, focused on the vision of a ‘Hyper-connected humanity free from loneliness’.

The social live streaming service “Hakuna Live”, launched last year, followed suit by becoming a ‘mainstream live streaming service’, surpassing 10 million downloads in March, and thus making Hyperconnect a multi-product company.
