This month, the iPhone 4 was released in 17 out of 18 new markets, including Hong Kong and Singapore, but excluding South Korea. It has been confirmed that the release of the iPhone 4 in South Korea will be delayed for awhile. KT Corp., the provider of the soon-to-be released iPhone 4 said that the delay was needed for further testing. This has become a significant problem for both Apple and KT, as rival companies' smartphones are available and quickly selling.
Samsung has said that they have sold a total of 500,000 Galaxy S smartphones in South Korea alone so far. The Galaxy S was released a little over a month ago. SK Telecom, the exclusive provider of the Galaxy S, said that they are selling an average of 20,000 handsets each day.
After the Galaxy S was released in South Korea, all the attention was focused towards the iPhone 4 and it's release date. Many people considered these two smartphones to be the rivals in the smartphone market with 1st and 2nd rankings. Although it is to be seen whether the Galaxy S or the iPhone 4 will become more popular, the delay of the iPhone 4 has resulted in Samsung's Galaxy S taking the first step towards being atop the smartphone market.
