Hyundai Motor will launch IONIQ, a pure electric vehicle brand that is applied with platforms dedicated to electric vehicles.
Hyundai Motor announced on Aug. 10 that it has decided to name the brand of its electric car, which is scheduled to be released sequentially from next year, IONIQ.
Hyundai Motor's launch of a separate dedicated electric vehicle lineup brand is part of its determination to secure global leadership in the fast-growing electric vehicle market.
The brand name IONIQ carries the meaning of inheriting the existing IONIQ's heritage, which symbolizes future-oriented yet pure eco-friendly technology.
The direction the IONIQ brand pursues is "Progress electrified for connected living." Rather than focusing only on electrification technology, the company aims to focus on providing new mobility experiences to customers.
"The IONIQ brand will change the paradigm of customer experience," said Cho Won-hong, vice president of Hyundai Motor's customer experience division. "With a new perspective on electric cars, we will give customers an advanced electrification experience based on an eco-friendly lifestyle."
By 2024, Hyundai plans to have a lineup of three types of IONIQ -- quasi medium-type CUV, mid-sized sedan and large-size SUV.
IONIQ, a dedicated electric vehicle lineup brand, is planning to have a new level of competitive edge in products such as design, performance, and spatiality. IONIQ's design concept is "Timeless value" that means a pure and refined design so that it can have permanence regardless of the passage of time.
In particular, the IONIQ brand's next-generation electric car can be charged in 20 minutes, the shortest time in the world, and can run more than 450 kilometers on a single charge.
In addition, interior space is maximized for freer passenger activity. It is a concept that extends beyond "mobile means" to "living spaces" where various activities can be carried out, a company spokesman said.
