Hyundai Glovis announced on Aug. 13 that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Incheon International Airport Corp. to build a test bed for smart parking.
About 10 officials from both companies, including Koo Bon-hwan, president of Incheon International Airport Corp., and Kim Jung-hoon, CEO of Hyundai Glovis, attended the signing ceremony of the agreement, adding to the meaning of cooperation.
With the conclusion of the agreement, the corporation plans to support the technical verification of the smart parking system, while reviewing the possibility of introducing and operating the facility at Incheon International Airport and taking a step forward to become a future airport under the Vision 2030.
Until now, the corporation has been striving to improve parking services from a customer's perspective, not only due to lack of parking space but also to problems in identifying parking spaces in case of congestion and inefficiency in moving routes.
In this context, the successful introduction of Hyundai Glovis' smart parking system is expected to drastically reduce the time to identify parking spaces and increase the efficiency of parking spaces throughout the airport.
Incheon International Airport Corp. and Hyundai Glovis are planning to gradually pursue cooperation projects in three stages: verifying technologies for parking robots, pilot operation of parking robots, and customer service.
The corporation plans to finalize the application of the final customer service (Step 3) by comprehensively reviewing the results of verification in Steps 1 and 2, opinions of related departments, and detailed operation plans.
Koo Bon-hwan, president of Incheon International Airport Corp., said, "Based on the conclusion of this agreement, we believe that it has laid the groundwork for providing differentiated parking services for customers and improving the efficiency of parking spaces at Incheon International Airport. In the future, we plan to discover a new paradigm of transportation cooperation models so that Incheon International Airport can leap into a future-oriented airport."
