서울에서 승용차로 2시간 남짓 걸려 대전광역시 대덕구에 위치한 '한남대학교'를 찾아갔다. 정문을 들어서자 넓은 정원 캠퍼스를 감싸고 있는 나무들과 어우러져있는 유서 깊은 주황색 벽돌건물들은 비단결처럼 펼쳐진 잔디밭 길과 함께 오는 이의 발걸음을 반갑게 맞이하고 있었다. 가벼운 발걸음으로 총장실로 올라가는 중 초대총장 William Linton박사의 유훈 "수업을 정시에 시작한다, 수업은 정시에 끝낸다, 모든 학생에게 숙제를 내준다, 교수와 학생은 결강하지 않는다, 기독교 분위기를 유지한다"는 돌 비석이 유난히 눈에 띄었다.

Passing the main entrance of the school, the all-embracing campus is integrated with nature; it provides a certain gracefulness within a bustling city where there is a moment of peace for the eyes when driving by.
