Incheon City Hall is not far from Seoul, but it feels really far. Although Incheon is the closest metropolitan city from Seoul, I was more than 20 minutes late for my interview due to heavy traffic. Finally, I started my interview with Mr. Hwang Ui-sik, the Director of Culture, Tourism, and Sports Bureau of Incheon City.

Gyeonggi Province and Gyeonggi Small & Medium Business Center (GSMB) held the '2010 G-Trade Global Export Fair' at Suwon IBIS Ambassador Hotel on March 5. The event was scheduled the day after 'Buy Korea 2010' as a continuous effort to bring more potential global buyers to Gyeonggi Province. Ninety companies from 23 different countries were invited to have meetings with approximately 400 small and medium size companies in the Province. Gyeonggi Province's major products include IT/Electronics, LED, security, auto parts, medical equipment/BT, machinery, and construction.

The digital trend has changed our life style. Now we listen to digital music on a small portable device and watch movies using DVD, Blu-ray Disk, or sometimes files downloaded from bittorrent. The digital movement has finally come to printed media. Some people still prefer an old style book reading because the feeling of turning pages cannot be replaced with e-book readers. However, the technology has brought many advantages to e-books over paperbacks. Thousands of books can be stored in one device that is usually thinner and lighter than most textbooks.

The recent rumors about Apple’s next generation iPhone launch in Korea were found to be true. On Jan. 13, Lee Suk-chae, the CEO of KT, responded to questions about the introduction of 4G iPhone at the social venture business meeting held in Renaissance Hotel. According to Lee, the new iPhone will be released as early as June. The testing model is expected to be available in May.

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) is getting ready to allow terrestrial broadcasters to broadcast around the clock and test 3-D terrestrial broadcasting this year. At Present, terrestrial broadcasters' operating hours are limited from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m the next day.

KCC's 2010 operations report was sent to President Lee Myung-bak at the end of the year. The KCC said, “It will also draw up new policies regarding new television channels and advertising markets. The combined value of the two markets was KRW4.2 trillion last year.”

LG Electronics has introduced a broadband TV with built in Skype software featuring free Skype-to-Skype calling. The TV will be first exhibited at CES 2010, one of the biggest electronic consumer shows held in Las Vegas from January 7 through January 10. Since the Skype internet calling software is embedded in TV, consumers can use free internet voice/video calls on big screen TV.

KEPCO has developed Korea’s first electric vehicle charging station, which will bring the commercialization of an electric vehicle earlier than expected. On January fifth, KEPCO made an announcement that the researchers have finished testing and demonstrated the electric charging station.

Smartphones. The term is fairly self-explanatory. A smartphone can be characterized as a miniature computer that can make phone calls. The first smartphone was introduced in 1992 after its first launch by IBM as a phone with a variety of applications including a calendar, address book, email, and games. The modern world demanded computers to change from being portable, where a user is able to carry a device from point A to point B but is unable to use it while moving, to mobile, where a user is both able to carry and use a device from point A to point B.

The most current netbooks are usually cheap but low in performance. To solve the problem, the global PC company Acer launched their 2nd generation ultra-thin notebook on Novemver 6, 2009 called Ferrari One, using the Ferrai sports car design. Acer has been a partner with Ferrari for a long time and launched several Ferrai laptops since 2004. However, this is the first time for the company to launch a Ferrai netbook.
