Lakhvinder Singh, Ph.D., president of the Indo-Korean Business and Policy Forum
In water cooler discussions about strong countries in IT hardware, Korea often comes up. And, when companies need to identify strong software countries, India is always a prominent consideration. It only makes sense that the two countries strong in different aspects of the technology that is reshaping the world work together as closely as possible.

Working to realize this close relationship is Lakhvinder Singh, Ph.D., president of the Indo-Korean Business and Policy Forum. The next forum is coming soon - on June 10th, and will be held at the Walker Hill Hotel in Seoul. According to Dr. Singh, the forum “seeks to provide a platform to Indian and Korean scholars and businessmen to air their views on diverse issues facing the two countries and greater Asian region.”

This forum in June is designed specifically for Korean ICT companies to attend who are seeking business relationships with Indian ICT companies. To accomplish this, the forum has invited many top leaders from India's corporate, government and academic sectors to attend and speak. Among the expected speakers include Mr. Ashok Kumar C. Manoli of the Department of Information Technology & Bio-technology of Karnataka, a province in India; Shri Capt. Ganesh Karnik, Deputy Chairman of the NRI Forum of Karnataka and member of the Karnataka Legislature Council; Prof. B. N. Jain, Deputy Director of the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhil; and N. K. Goyal, President of the Communications & Manufacturing Association of India.

Dr. Singh is planning a follow-up forum approximately six months later which will be the counterpoint - a meeting in India of many IT companies who are interested in the Korean market - but this first one will be held here in Seoul. “This conference will provide an opportunity for Korean IT firms to know more about the growing domestic ICT sector in India and the possibility of investment and doing business in India,” said Lakhvinder Singh.

Good numbers

Singh paints a very positive picture of India and Korea's mutual growth with lots of good numbers. He said that the total economic relationship between the two countries grew by 31% just last year alone. Estimates say that business relationships between the two countries will hit approximately US$20 billion. India has also almost completely avoided the global economic crisis, maintaining a GDP growth rate of 8%. Of all the partners Korea could choose, one which is not suffering a financial crisis is a cut above the rest.

Another point that Dr. Singh stresses is the complimentary skills and abilities of Korea's and India's ICT industries. On Korea's part, he says that the country can be an important player in bridging the digital divide in India's developing areas. On India's side, it offers its ICT sector as the fastest growing area of the Indian economy, with US$60 billion in total revenue and the interest of major multinational corporations such as HP, IBM, Accenture, Capgemini and Computer Sciences Corporation.

Dr. Singh's organization has been active since 2007. His organization has held the Conference on Korea's 2007 Presidential Election and Political Development in March of 2007, and also in that same year the Cooperation between Asian and Europe and the 21st Century Forum in June. In 2008 the organization created three conferences: the Collaboration within EU and Asian: Australia, India, and Korea meeting; the Future of Good Governance in Korea conference; and The Future of India-Korea Relations event.

The June Forum is open to all Korean and foreign businesses interested in knowing more about future of the ICT business in India. Anyone wanting to know more about the forum can reach the organizers of the event through their website at www.ikbforum.com.
