Dr. Suh Hyo-sok, director of the Pyun Gang Oriental Medicine Hospital

"Basically, rhinitis and asthma are classified as some sort of incurable diseases in western medicine due to the lack of predominant therapy. Particularly for atopic dermatitis, steroids are often used as some sort of a panacea, but if a patient continuously receives injections of steroids, and no matter how healthy the patient may be, the patient still has the possibility of suffering from all types of side effects including diabetes, hyperglycemic, osteoporosis, myocardial infarction and many more. Even though western medicine has been around for hundreds of years, there is no predominant medical treatment, which enables physicians to cure the disease at the source. However, oriental medicine is different. I will explain how it's different from western medicine."

The above is a part of Dr. Suh's (Dr. Suh Hyo-sok, director of a Pyun Gang Oriental Medicine Hospital / www. wwdoctor.com) speech that was addressed to a crowd of 1,200, which included the Mayor of New York City at an event titled 'Night of the Korean immigrants of New York' held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel located in the heart of Times Square in New York City on January 13, 2011. Dr Suh is the one who is putting oriental medicine on the world stage by developing a groundbreaking new oriental brand medicine called 'Pyun Gang Tang' for incurable and recurring diseases such as rhinitis, asthma, atopic dermatitis and Chronic Obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Comforting-giving herbal decoction Pyun Gang Tang

Pyun Gang Tang literally means an herbal decoction which strengthens the tonsils (pyundosun in Korean). And it can also mean a comfort-giving herbal decoction when the letter Pyun is taken from the Korean word "pyunahn", which means comfort. Pyun Gang Tang not only strengthens the tonsils, but also has worked wonders with 50,000 persistent allergic rhinitis sufferers, 30,000 asthmatic patients and 40,000 atopic dermatitis sufferers. All the respiratory diseases like rhinitis, asthma and atopic dermatitis that western medicine has given up on were cured by Pyun Gang Tang, so it is indeed a comforting-giving decoction.

Dr. Suh explained, "The lung is the most important organ that performs a multitude of vital functions every second of our lives. People will die after five minutes of not breathing. The health of the lung (of which breathing is the most essential function) and the heart is directly related to the health of our body. In other words, if the lung weakens, people come down with illnesses. For instance, if a person has a cold for over 10 days, his lung will get weaker, making his body more vulnerable to rhinitis, empyema, conjunctivitis, otitis media and asthma. In particular, COPD is a deadly disease: one out of three COPDpatients can die within five years."

The original motive for Dr. Suh to invent Pyun Gang Tang was just because he himself suffered from persistent tonsillitis, an inflammation (swelling) of the tonsils. When he was young, he suffered from a painful swelling of his tonsils and frequently ran a fever over 40 degrees Celsius. Above all, when he just started practicing oriental medicine, he felt it so frustrating to be unable to cure his own illness and to end up finding himself sitting in an ear, nose, and throat clinic. After that moment, strongly determined to get rid of hi

s illness by himself, he tried various mixtures of lung-purifying herbs like Adenophorae Radix, Liriopis Tuber and Platycodi Radix. In the beginning, Dr. Suh actually used himself as a guinea pig to develop Pyun Gang Tang.

In 2000, having in mind that since tonsillitis is directly related to the health of the lung, strong lungs will be the answer, Dr. Suh strenuously upgraded Pyun Gang Tang. The early version of Pyun Gang Tang, which was originally designed to cure only tonsillitis, worked well with tonsillitis sufferers and people with chronic rhinitis as well. While he was treating people with chronic rhinitis with Pyun Gang Tang, he found that the symptoms of asthma and atopy were also improved. He was right. The root cause of all the respiratory illnesses lies in the lung, so once the functions of the lung are revitalized and the blood streams are cleaned up, the immune system and self-healing power of the body will be strengthened. Thus, in the process of treating people with chronic rhinitis with Pyun Gang Tang, other respiratory illnesses and dermatitis went away.

How long do patients have to take Pyun Gang Tang for

Pyun Gang Tang works for people of all ages and races. Just four months after a 90 year old man, who had suffered from asthma for five decades, started to take Pyun Gang Tang, he felt his life-time illness dissipating. This elderly man bowed, scraped and kowtowed to Dr. Suh. Besides, an African American man, who found it hard to breathe normally due to his COPD that is deemed as incurable by modern medicine, became a COPD-free man in just three months.

Dr. Suh said, "COPD is a serious disease that can kill patients. It has been deemed as an incurable disease, but it can be cured by taking Pyun Gang Tang for nearly 18 months. That's why I was dumbfounded by the fact that the African American man became COPD-free in just three months. During the first couple of days of taking Pyun Gang Tang, the African American patient showed some rejection symptoms as his body was detoxified by my prescription. After that period, his condition got better and better. I guess Pyun Gang Tang works better for westerners who often eat junk food such as hamburgers, fries and soda (he laughed)."

Dr. Suh added, "Pyun Gang Tang not only heals weakened lungs, but also helps to strengthen the lungs as well. We conducted a study to see whether Pyun Gang Tang influences lung capacity. Two national swimmers with high lung capacity took Pyun Gang Tang for three months. Compared to their pre-Pyun Gang Tang lung capacity, post- Pyun Gang Tang lung capacity did not increase appreciably: one of the two national swimmers had a 16 percent increase in his lung capacity. However, when it came to their records, Pyun Gang Tang made a difference. One of the national swimmers cut his average record by 0.5 seconds in a 50 m swim. And the other swimmer cut his personal best by three seconds in a 400 m swim after just two months of taking Pyun Gang Tang and five seconds after three months of taking Pyun Gang Tang. This swimmer also cut his 1500m record by a bumper 11 seconds." Furthermore, Pyun Gang Tang is also good for preventing lung cancer and curing pneumoconiosis (an occupational lung disease and a restrictive lung disease caused by the inhalation of dust, often in mines). A study result showed that 299 smokers and pneumoconiosis sufferers living in Ansan (a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea) were all cured completely after one year of taking Pyun Gang Tang.

Pyun Gang Tang gets globalized

Pyun Gang Tang includes various mixtures of lung-purifying herbs like Adenophorae Radix, Liriopis Tuber and many more.

Pyun Gang Tang, which became a FDA-approved medicine in 2006, has been exported to 30 nations including the US, Japan, China, the UK, Germany, France, Russia and Paraguay. In a scientific test in February 2002 by Microbac Laboratories, Inc. (a California-based, FDA-approved lavatory specializing in chemical, biological, physical, molecular and toxicological analysis), Pyun Gang Tang was proven as a product safe to be used as a dietary supplement. Pyun Gang Tang beautifully passed Microbac Laboratories' 186 tests to detect the amount of toxic substance such as antiseptics and steroids. The tests clearly showed that Pyun Gang Tang contains no toxic substances whatsoever. Thus, exports of Pyun Gang Tang have been on the rise.

Pyun Gang Oriental Hospital has two overseas branches: one in Orange County in California (which opened in July of 2010 in a joint venture with Stanton University in Los Angeles) and the other in Osaka (which opened at the end of last year). Pyun Gang Oriental Hospital in Garden Grove, California, is in affiliation with Stanton University in Los Angeles and has received great attention from the Korean community and the media. Meanwhile, Dr. Suh gave special lectures to dermatologists and people with atopic dermatitis at Pyun Gang Oriental Hospital in Osaka. His lecture created explosive responses. In addition, his book titled "The Way to Miracle to Health" sold more than 10,000 copies in China, making it to the best seller list. The book was published by a Chinese publishing company Jirin Science and Technology Books in March of 2001.

During the hour-long interview with Korea IT Times, Dr. Suh showed his strong determination to change the notion that oriental medicine is nothing but alternative medicine. Also, he smiled in a big way, talking about his ambition that he will make excellent healing effects of Pyun Gang Tang felt by the rest of the world and will become the first Korean to win the Nobel Prize in Medicine.
