Nano Korea is the country's largest international event for nanotechnology. It provides a technological platform for convergence industries and bolsters the industry's development and cooperation. This annual event has been co-hosted by the Ministry of Education & Science Technology and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy since 2003. It is largely composed of a symposium (for academia) and exhibition (for business). For the past eight years, the show has increased the number of participants and the scale about 34 percent per year, which makes this year's show six times as large as the one in 2003.
Titled Nanotechnology, Bridge to Global Happiness, the symposium in 2011 invites 56 speakers from 11 countries including Konstantin Novoselov of the University of Manchester, the winner of 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics, and Kim Dongseop, CEO of SK Innovation, who will talk about the latest studies in a variety of subjects.
Meanwhile, the exhibition will consist of 550 booths of 300 organizations from 11 countries such as the US, Japan, Germany, Russia, France, Belgium, Spain, Canada, Switzerland, and Iran, making it the largest in the history of Nano Korea and also the second largest exhibition in the world next to Japan's Nanotech exhibition with 850 booths. Five new technologies will be emphasized at this year's event. They are advanced ceramics, printing electronics, micro electro mechanical systems (MEMS), and laser processing. The emphasis is designed to promote active technological exchange among relevant industries and also allow visitors to take a look at products with different applications of nanotechnology.
In addition, an exhibition guide tour has been put together for this year's event so as to help those who are not familiar with nanotechnologies. An English program will be provided for foreigners as well. This year's show also includes business-related programs like a specialist recruitment fair, a nano IR investment presentation, introduction and consultation for new technologies, and, for the lay audience, more than 20 programs such as nanotechnology lectures and nano education for the youth.
Free entry is available by registering at the website (www.nanokorea.or.kr) in advance where visitors can also participate in a special event.
