New Cutting-edge Handset & System Technologies on Display

Samsung Electronics is continuing market development through various marketing efforts such as the ITU Telecom Asia 2004. With the ITU Telecom Asia 2004 as a momentum, the company plans to introduce its new cutting-edge handsets and system technologies to demonstrate the technology leadership inmultimedia innovation. The Korea IT Times spoke with Chief Executive Lee Ki-tae regarding the company's technology leadership his company enjoy.

Q. What display products and service contents will Samsung Electronics exhibit of ITU Telecom Asia

We will introduce our new cutting edge handsets and system technologies to show off our technology leadership for multimedia innovation.
We will exhibit several significant products at ITU TelecomAsia 2004, including:

* SGH-E800: a streamlined Slide-Up phone which represents a new mobile experience. With a gentle touch, users automatically glide the model's screen display forward to reveal a generous keypad, power buttons and other enhanced features.

* SPH-S2300: Samsung's first 3.2 megapixel camera embedded mobile phone that has 3x optical linear zoom. It looks like real digital camera when you see the opposite side and innovative slim slide-down design mobile phone at the front side.

* SCH-B100: The first DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) handset with swing bar type intenna design and up to 2 hours video broadcasting.

Q. Please explain the display products and services that Samsung Electronics promotes in global markets among this time's display products as well as services.

We are very proud of introducing our brand new mobile phones which have very slick and stylish designs and innovative multimedia features.

Q.What products and services do you have in the pipeline

Video related features such as video streaming, video telephony, taking and sharing video, and downloading video will become popular over the next couple of years as 3G gains momentum. Therefore we will focus more on our first DMB supporting handset which perfectly matches with all kinds of video related features.

As well as creating phones with innovative features, we will focus on designs of our phones. Samsung has always been recognized for outstanding design leadership, particularly for the clamshell type design. However, we see a new opportunity to expand this leadership into a new design platform like slider phones. Benefits of slide phones include a larger screen size, ease of use and efficiency in design.

Q. What will be Samsung Electronics' future marketing and portable phone development strategy

We believe that mobile phones are best matched with human nature than any other consumer electronics. Because of the desire to be connected with other people, nowadays, people are attached to their mobile phones 24 hours a day. This is why we are trying to improve data communication capabilities of mobile phones to make it possible for continued connectivity. We also believe that future handsets will be a HUB for communication as well as a HUB for our lives and will work towards making this a reality.

We plan to continue market development through various marketing efforts. We are trying to have more efficient global brand campaign such as Olympics, global advertisement, and product placement (e.g. matrix reloaded and so on).
