LG Display, a top global display maker, is to showcase a range of new technologies and cutting-edge products during the tenth International Meeting on Information Display (IMID 2011 Exhibition), scheduled to be held between 12th to 14th of October at the KINTEX convention and exhibition center in Ilsan.

During the international event, LG Display will bring along its next-generation technology with AH-IPS technology and FPR 3D as the main theme, which will suggest its state-of-the-art technology and enormous potential for development.

AH-IPS technology

LG introduces ultra-high resolution AH-IPS displays

LG Display will have a separate zone for Advanced High Performance-In Plane Switching (AH-IPS) and exhibit a range of AH-IPS panels in various sizes including a 4.5 inch panel with high resolution of 329ppi based on its world-leading panel technology and demonstrate superiority of AH-IPS technology for mobile devices.

In the meantime, Dr. Haisong Xu, a professor at Zhejiang Univ. of China, has proved once again that AH-IPS technology is superior to OLED for mobile devices, in the Display Quality Comparison AH-IPS vs AMOLED report during the 2011 Display Search China FPD Conference held in Sanghai, China in early September. The study aims to compare picture quality between AH-IPS and AMOLED panels.

Xu said that smartphones adopting AH-IPS panels have better color accuracy and color uniformity, while AMOLED has vague color expression due to overall color distortion, although color contrast and color gamut are good in a dark room.

Emotional Image Quality Evaluation also reveals that AH-IPS performs better in overall image quality factors including naturalness, brightness, color contrast under normal illumination, sharpness and legibility. AMOLED, on the other hand, scored lower than AH-IPS in most evaluation items except in color contrast in a dark room and colorfulness thanks to wide color reproduction.

FPR 3D

The monitors offer a brighter display, clearer images, and a certified 3D picturewith FPR 3D technology

Meanwhile in the event, LG Display is planning to display various IT products that utilize Film-type Patterned Retarder (FPR) panels such as 3D TV, 3D Monitor, and 3D Notebooks.

LG has first developed FDR 3D panels, which was adopted to 3D TV from major global TV manufacturers including LG Electronics. In China, in particular, where sales of FDR 3D TV was launched early this year, sales have outperformed that of 3D TV with the existing Shutter Glass (SG) method and occupied more than 50% of Chinese market share.

Later in the second quarter of this year, FPR 3D TV was released in North America and Europe, where the product takes about 30% share in the panel television sector.

Next-generation Technology

During the event, LG Display will showcase a range of next-generation technology and capture the eyes of the visitors with a 47-inch panel TV that cuts the number of LED lamps significantly and enables record-low power consumption level and a 47-inch panel for public display that enhances visibility even in the outdoors with strong natural light.
