Kwon Young-bum, President and CTO of YoungLimWon Soft Lab

SEOUL, KOREA — “The most important thing about software is its reusability. From a business perspective, the ideal software package can be used by many people. We released our first ERP package in 1997, and since then we upgraded it to the new models every 4 years considering platform, language, and functionality. This is not as easy as it seems. Some software companies at home and abroad find it challenge to constantly upgrade the models especially when they are small and medium sized. Our upgrades signify our constant investment in R&D sector. I myself have an engineer background, so play my role as CTO, and even the head researcher at the lab. ERP, is a software, but it requires knowledge in two areas: IT and business management. With 32 years of expertise experience, I pour my passion on research and development because I believe it is the only way to strengthen my company and our products.” YoungLimWon also focuses on updating its knowledge in management. It throws breakfast meetings every month with an invited guest to discuss on economy and business management. This month, the head economist from JP Morgan will speak for us.

One impeccable product for all

The government too recognizes YoungLimWon’s excellence. By naming the R&D supporting project as World Best Software, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy has recently chosen YoungLimWon as the project manager of Integration Smart ERP Project.

Vision to reach abroad

“We’ve been building a good relationship with Japan. We’ve invested in Japan for seven years, and we’ve been working on establishing ERP partner business with Japan to understand the market. We are expecting to do business with three Japanese companies next year. This will be significant to our companies’ globalization. Since Japanese companies are known to have a high set of standards and are cautious in partnering with foreign companies, sealing the deal will not only improve the quality of our products on the competitive scale, but it will also gain us good recognition to other countries around the world. We’ve invested a corporate body in Vietnam,” said Kwon.

“About 2 weeks ago, the head of our corporate body in Vietnam contacted us and let us know that a president of a Japanese company visited the Vietnam branch and was very impressed with the ERP system. He was highly interested in installing the software back in his company in Japan, so now we are meeting. News like this is very thrilling for us. We believe that a product itself should be firm. Marketing is not everything to our company. We’d like to be a trustworthy company with a good solution- the solution that can satisfy our clients by being what it is.” YoungLimWon also notes the importance of a fast response to any problems the software may cause. We have 40 staff in the maintenance department so we are always available for any kind of errors and problems.”

YoungLimWon in Chinese originally meant Forest built with Brain Power. But President Kwon decided that it is not only brain power that makes a strong company. “What matters more is sustainability. So we changed the Chinese character Young to ‘forever young' and now it means everlasting forest.” After twenty years YoungLimWon Soft Lab looks to the bright future with its history of reference, reputation, and impeccable solutions.
