The Incheon IT Promotion Agency (IITPA) has been planning to hold the 2011 Incheon IT Technology Awards for IT companies in Incheon and the CEOs of IT companies who graduated universities and graduate schools in Incheon. The event is aimed at nurturing excellent IT companies in Incheon by encouraging IT companies in Incheon to develop better products and services, and giving marketing support to reinforce the competitiveness of prize-winning companies. The IITPA will also publicize prize-winning companies and their products and services through various media including national newspapers.

This award program will be managed by the Ministry of Knowledge and the Incheon Metropolitan Government and the IITPA and sponsored by the Incheon Municipal Assembly, the Incheon Small Business Administration, the Electronic Times, Incheon Universtiy, Inha University and Jaeneung University.

“Incheon has three assets through which to realize indefinite potential and possibilities,” said Song Young-gil, Mayor of Incheon. “First, we have secured openness and a big capacity through Incheon International Airport and Incheon Port. Second, Incheon is the center for new growth engines for Korea in the 21st century by being close to China and has a free economic zone and core infrastructure for logistics business in Northeast Asia. Third, various industries such as IT, robots and culture are growing fast on the foundation of numerous promising companies in Incheon.”

The award will be divided into three categories – IT Companies, BI Companies and Special Prizes. The IT Companies Category will be awarded the Grand Prize from the Mayor of Incheon. This award will go to only one company and the Gold Prize from the President of the Electronic Times and the director of the IITPA will go to two companies. The prizes in the BI Companies Category will consist of the Grand Prize from the Chairman of the Incheon Municipal Council to be given to one company and the Gold Prize from the Director of the Incheon Small Business Administration. The Special Prizes will be given by the presidents of Incheon, Inha and Jaeneung Universities. No prize money will be given to winners in compliance with the amendment of a relevant law.

The IITPA will publicize this award program in cooperation with Incheon City, the Incheon Small Business Administration, the Incheon Technology Assessment Center, Small and Medium Business Cooperation, Songdo Techno Park, the Incheon Business Agency, industry-academic partnership groups in universities and colleges in Incheon and other related organizations and groups. The agency will encourage companies to take part in this program by visiting or calling promising companies in Incheon.

A lot of benefits will be given to prize-winning companies. Most of all, the IITPA will preferentially give the prize-winning companies rights to take part in projects of the IITPA in 2012. Also, the prize-winning companies will be entitled to use office rooms in the Business Incubator Center of the IITPA. The IITPA will recommend the prize-winning companies to the Incheon Venture Start-up Investors' Cooperative and publicize them through its PR materials. The prize-winning companies will receive extra points when they take part in industry-academy partnership projects in universities and colleges in Incheon.

Products will be judged by technological performance, commercialization performance, and ripple effects on related sectors. The IITPA made an announcement of the program from September 1 to November 8. The agency received applications from October 26 to November 8.

Candidate companies made presentations and had Q&A sessions on November 18. Outside experts appointed by the IITPA evaluated candidate companies. The award ceremony will be held in the second week of December. The IITPA expects that the award program will be established as a representative award event in Incheon, discover excellent human resources and promising IT companies in Incheon, publicize the technological power of the prize-winning companies, and create an environment for the establishment of new venture firms and the inducement of companies from the outside of Incheon.

“Since 2003, through the IITPA, Incheon City has given the Incheon IT Technology Awards to talented IT companies in Incheon to help them grow into excellent companies,” Song said. “The Incheon City Government will continue to support Incheon-based IT companies so that they will succeed as excellent companies. We will devote ourselves to making Incheon more business-friendly and attracting promising IT companies to Incheon by bridging academies, companies, research centers and public organizations.”
