Minnesota, USA –December 22, 2011 – Although the U.S. White House did not confirm whether Carter indeed sent a condolence letter in which the former president supposedly stated he was sorry for Kim’s loss and wished him success in the future. Perhaps the controversy over such an act would keep the truth from ever being known; the thought would send fiery through most people since this man’s father –Kim Jong Il –caused such hardship for the people of N Korea.
Yet, it reminds us that everyone has a face and feelings, so the world’s reaction toward the death could influence the North Koreans’ lives; maybe Jong Un would bring better lives to North Koreans if a simple act of kindness from his ‘enemy’ touched his “heart”. We may be wishing for a miracle to bring these people out of the darkness and into the light of good lives. However, it is difficult to imagine anything positive happening because many believe that the successor –Jong Un – may be more harsh than his father. We are all searching for straws to pull that could bring an end to the madness in N Korea.
The U.S. is on the defensive front due to the fear that N Korea could hit its ‘climax’ of hatred and attack its neighboring countries –Japan and South Korea. Although the U.S. presence is large and much known in S Korea, the alertness of the troops in that area is high; they must be ready to defend the nation and prevent S Koreans from enduring what N Korea has endured for over half a century.
As it may not be the best idea to send a condolence such as this, it is also not a good idea for politicians to release hateful messages to the public –for Jong Un – to see. For instance, Senator John McCain responded to the death of Jong Il, “The world is a better place now that Kim Jong Il is no longer in it… I can only express satisfaction that the Dear Leader is joining the likes of Qadaffi, Bin Laden, Hitler, and Stalin in a warm corner of hell." If representatives of any nation rejoice in another’s sorrow, the hate is bound to grow greater; after all, hate breeds hate and we must put a stop to this in order for the hope of peace to ever return to the Northern Peninsula. This is a time to be tight-lipped and keep our thoughts to ourselves –why would we want to influence the leader to punish his people and the neighboring countries as well
