DALLAS, USA — IPNav had previously identified and evaluated the portfolio of 800 patents being purchased by Microsoft at the request of a significant AOL shareholder. As part of its review IPNav analyzed the AOL portfolio of 800 patents using its internally developed IPNav Analyzer automated patent analysis software in conjunction with IPNav's proprietary patent evaluation techniques. As a result of its analysis IPNav valued the AOL patent portfolio at approximately USD billion. The IPNav assessment of the value of these patents stands in stark contrast to other patent advisory firms, which failed to attach an appropriate value to the AOL portfolio. For example, patent advisory firm M-Cam estimated the value of the AOL patent portfolio at “roughly USD 290 million,” well below the ultimate market price.

IPNav‘s Chief Executive Officer, David Pridham, stated: “We are very pleased that the AOL sale to Microsoft has again validated IPNav’s proprietary analytical approach and methods both in terms of identifying and valuing intellectual property. While it is unfortunate that AOL did not move sooner to monetize its portfolio as IPNav had urged them to, which would have resulted in greater value to AOL's shareholders, IPNav believes that its evaluation capabilities have enabled it to accurately predict the value of this AOL portfolio and it is this ability that has made IPNav the global leader in full service patent monetization.”
