SEOUL, KOREA – Hyundai Motor’s small hatchback HB20, a strategic model for the Brazilian market, is enjoying rising popularity in Brazil.
According to Brazil’s auto-dealer association Fenabrave, the HB20 was sold 8,077 units in Brazil in November 2012, ranking No. 9 in terms of sales volume among small cars selling there.
In contrast, the sales of Toyota’s ETIOS, a rival model of the HB20, stood at a mere 1,322 in Brazil. At a time when Hyundai Motor released the HB20, GM also released a new small sedan Onix in Brazil. The sales of the Onix in Brazil reached 7,409 units, lagging behind those of the HB20.
HB20 has been developed to target the Brazilian market where the share of hybrid fuel vehicles is estimated at over 80 percent. Hyundai Motor aims to sell 200,000 units of cars in Brazil next year, including the 150,000 of the HB20 produced at its Brazil plant.
