SEOUL, KOREA – A research firm Frost & Sullivan predicted that about 15,100 units of hydrogen fuel-cell cars will likely to be released in Korea by 2020. Although the distribution of fuel-cell cars in Korea remains low at about 300 units as of 2011, the fuel-cell car market is expected to grow at an annual growth rate of 54.4 percent onwards.
Fuel-cell cars will likely to be commercialized fully from 2015, with the number of fuel-cell cars likely to expand up to 15,100 in 2020, about a 50 times higher than the current level.
Environment-friendly green cars are drawing ever-increasing attention throughout the world. Against this backdrop, major automakers have long performed automobile research to develop alternatives to existing internal combustion engines. Based on conditions that oil prices continue to grow over the next 10-15 years, the development of this area is unquestionably inevitable.
