SEOUL, KOREA - Three unlikely partners, SK Telecom, Samsung Fire & Marine, and Samsung Card, have joined hands to provide services related to the digital tachograph. By the end of 2013, all cargo trucks will be mandated to install a digital tachograph, a device fitted to a vehicle that automatically records its speed and distance, together with the driver's activity selected from a choice of modes.
According to the terms of the agreement signed on January 15, SK Telecom will supply the "smart tachograph," while Samsung Fire & Marine gives the truck owners a discount on insurance rates and Samsung Card allows its credit card members to pay for the smart tachograph with mileage points they have accumulated.
In addition to supplying the digital device, SK Telecom will take the responsibility of providing the control tower platform service linked to the smart tachograph and submitting records to the Korea Transportation Safety Authority.

SKT·삼성화재·삼성카드, '디지털운행기록계' 시장 겨냥하고 힘 합쳤다
SK텔레콤과 삼성화재, 삼성카드가 '디지털운행기록계(DTG)' 시장을 노리고 손을 잡았다. DTG는 2013년 말까지 화물자동차들이 의무적으로 장착해야 한다.
SK텔레콤이 통신형 디지털운행기록계인 '스마트DTG'를 공급하면 삼성화재는 운영 실적에 따라 '스마트 DTG' 장착 차량에 자동차 우대요율을 적용한다. 또 스마트DTG를 구매할 때는 최소 대금만 부담하고 잔여 대금은 삼성카드 사용시 발생하는 포인트로 상환할 수 있도록 했다.
이들 3사는 15일 서울 을지로 SK T타워에서 해당 업무 협약을 체결했다고 이날 밝혔다. 오는 3월 서비스를 본격 론칭할 계획이다.
특히 SK텔레콤은 스마트DTG와 실시간으로 연동되는 'DTG 관제 플랫폼' 서비스를 제공하고, 화물차주를 대신해 교통안전공단에 운행기록 제출을 대행한다. 또 차량운행정보 활용 솔루션 사업을 본격화할 예정이다.
