SEOUL, KOREA - Lee Jae Yong, vice chairman and heir apparent of Samsung Group, has been appointed as a board of directors member of the Boao Forum for Asia, a forum of leaders from government, business, and academia in Asia modeled after the World Economic Forum held annually in Davos, Switzerland.
His appointment will be confirmed at the 12th annual meeting to be held in early April at China's Hainan Island. Lee will take the place vacated by SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won.
The Boao Forum is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established in February 2001 by 26 Asian representatives to prepare for a world reorganized by western powers. Headed by former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda as the chairman, its board of directors has 15 members including former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson, former Singaporean Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, and former French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin.
