HHI has been implementing short-term IT convergence projects in several areas of operation, but now plans to maximize the synergy from the IT convergence by expanding the projects to its seven business divisions.
HHI had set up IT Convergence Promotion Team inside its IT division to identify and work with the strategic partners, to gather ideas from the employees and plan for new products. The team will also support the IT convergence task forces within the seven divisions including shipbuilding, plants, engines and electronic systems, so that they will plan, develop and commercialize the new convergence products.
The IT convergence projects in Korean manufacturing industry so far had been in the form of big-ticket items heavily supported by the government, but this company-wide IT convergence effort by HHI is a voluntary move made by a private entity. In fact, the shipbuilding IT convergence projects HHI implemented so far, starting with the digital shipyard implementation and smart-ship development in 2008 to the recent hosting of Shipbuilding Convergence Innovation Center within its fences, had been supported by the government. Now, the company is identifying IT convergence opportunities, such as VDI-based cloud computing, and implementing them on its own initiative.
현대중공업 IT융합에 사활걸었다
현대중공업이 전사 차원의 IT융합을 추진한다.
분야별 단기 프로젝트로 추진해 온 IT융합 사업을 현업 7개 사업본부 전체로 연계•확대해 IT융합 시너지 효과를 극대화한다는 전략이다.
현대중공업(대표 이재성)은 최근 통합전산실 내 IT융합추진부를 신설했다. TF 형태로 운영해 온 IT융합 업무를 통합해 정규 부서화했다.
IT융합추진부는 중소IT기업을 대상으로 현대중공업 IT융합 전략 파트너(SP:Strategic Partner)를 발굴•관리하고 전 직원의 IT융합 아이디어 제안과 상품 기획을 전담할 계획이다.
또 조선, 해양, 플랜트, 엔진, 전기전자시스템 등 7개 사업본부별 IT융합 TF 구성과 운영을 지원해 융합 신상품 기획, 개발, 상용화를 유도하도록 했다.
정영수 IT융합추진부장은 “상반기까지 사업본부별 IT융합 신제품을 기획하고 연말까지 가능성 높은 제품을 선정해 내년 개발에 들어간다”며 “전사적으로 IT융합 혁신 상품을 개발해 사업본부별 수주 역량을 극대화하고 현대중공업의 새로운 가치를 창출하는 것이 우리에게 주어진 임무”라고 말했다.
현대중공업의 전사적 IT융합은 관 주도 제조IT융합 트렌드가 민간 주도로 확산되는 분기점으로 해석되고 있다.
그간 국내 제조IT융합 추진은 정부가 대형 프로젝트로 국비를 지원하며 끌어왔다. 이번 현대중공업의 전사적 IT융합 추진은 민간 기업의 자발적 활동이다.
실제로 현대중공업은 지난 2008년 디지털십야드 구축과 스마트십 개발을 시작으로 사내 조선융합혁신센터 유치까지 정부 지원 프로젝트 형태의 조선IT융합을 추진해왔다.
하지만 최근 VDI(데스크톱 가상화)기반 클라우드 컴퓨팅 도입 등 독자적 IT융합 사업을 발굴, 확대시켜 나가고 있다.
ICT의 급격한 발달, 글로벌 경기 침체에 따른 미래 불확실성 등 대외 환경 변화도 이번 IT융합 추진 배경이다. 현대중공업은 전사적 IT융합의 최종 목표를 혁신상품 개발로 새로운 가치를 창출하는 것에 뒀다.
황시영 부사장(통합전산실장)은 “전사 임직원의 공감대 속에 추진하는 현대중공업의 경영 혁신 활동”이라며 “현대중공업을 떠받치는 7개 사업본부 현장에 IT융합이 깊숙이 뿌리내리게 될 것”이라 말했다.
