SEOUL, KOREA – Industry-academia-government-R&D collaboration has intensified to breathe new life into Korea’s lackluster electric vehicle (EV) market. Such scaled-up cooperation is aimed to wean Korea’s EV industry off government subsidies and help it stand on its own. On Tuesday, ET News set up “EV Forum” with 15 experts from industry, academia, R&D centers and government agencies in presence.
EV Forum was launched to thrash out an EV industry roadmap including the government’s EV promotion policies by the end of this year. In addition, in view of the fact that the EV industry has been mainly driven by producers of finished vehicles, EV Forum plans to build a new EV ecosystem where companies of all sizes can co-prosper.
EV Forum will unearth new niche markets such as low-speed EVs (also known as Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEV)), charging infrastructure and the conversion of gas guzzlers into EVs and mount large-scale PR activities to help the public have a better understanding of the EV industry.
The chairman of EV Forum said, “The EV industry has somewhat faltered over the past couple of years. Endeavors to boost the public’s awareness of the EV industry and craft market approaches in consideration of potential EV buyers are required and synergies among professional EV industry players, not sorely among purveyors of finished vehicles, are needed to create a new market.”
