SEOUL, KOREA - The hidden competitiveness of Samsung’s GALAXY S4 is its Appcessories, meaning the combination of mobile app service and hardware accessories.
Samsung Electronics that has shown a flip cover for their mobile gadgets to create a great sensation to the mobile accessory market is now combining the application service with the hardware. Appcessories, the combination of app service and hardware, will play a role in enhancing the functions and service interfaces Smartphone alone cannot provide. They are different from the current accessories that are used only to sub-serve or decorate mobile terminals.
For ‘S Health’, one of the main functions of GALAXY S4, the electronics company has released related Appcessories such as S Band, HRM and weight scale.
The mobile terminal also works as a game console. The company has also released a game pad similar to the Xbox controller. The pad changes the mobile terminal to a game mode with a simple touch on the company’s NFC-based ‘Tec Tiles’.
“Some of these Appcessories might have some changes in their design later, but we are planning to put them in the market after introducing GALAXY S4 to the domestic market,” says a person from the electronics giant.

삼성전자가 갤럭시S4 차별화된 판매 포인트로 앱세서리를 내세웠다.
앱세서리는 모바일 앱(App) 형태 서비스와 액세서리(Accessories)인 하드웨어가 결합된 방식으로 작동하는 모바일 기기를 말한다.
플립커버를 선보이며 모바일 액세서리 시장에 큰 반향을 일으킨 삼성전자는 이번에는 앱세서리까지 영역을 확장했다. 앱세서리는 앱과 하드웨어 결합으로 스마트폰이 제공하지 못하는 기능과 서비스 인터페이스를 확장하는 역할을 한다. 단순히 모바일 단말을 보조하거나 치장을 목적으로 했던 액세서리와 구별된다.
갤럭시S4의 주요 기능 중 하나인 S헬스는 앱세서리 부착이 필수다. 삼성전자는 S헬스용 앱세서리로 S밴드와 HRM, 체중계를 선보였다.
S밴드는 S헬스 2.0앱과 연동해 만보계 기능을 하는 앱세서리다. 걸어 다니는 양과 소모 칼로리를 저장한다. S밴드는 잠을 얼마나 효율적으로 자고 있는지와 자면서 얼마나 움직이는지를 측정한다.
HRM(Heart Rate Monitor)은 러닝메이트 앱과 연동해 실시간으로 심장박동수를 모니터링 하는 앱세서리다.
삼성전자는 체중계도 앱세서리 형태로 내놓는다. 갤럭시S4와 체중계를 블루투스로 연결한다. 체중계로 잰 몸무게는 갤럭시S4에 자동 저장된다. 7명의 사용자까지 지원한다. S헬스2.0앱을 통해 몸무게 변화를 알아볼 수 있다.
갤럭시S4는 게임기로도 변신한다. 삼성전자는 X박스 컨트롤러와 유사한 형태의 게임 패드도 내놨다. 이 기기는 NFC 텍타일로 간편하게 갤럭시S4를 게임 모드로 전환시킨다.
삼성전자 관계자는 “이들 앱세서리는 일부 디자인 변경 가능성도 있지만 갤럭시S4 국내 출시 이후 순차적으로 시판될 예정”이라고 밝혔다.
